Breast Health & Lifestyle

In the human anatomy, each part or organ has its function to perform. Some of the parts may be more of an accessory while others are truly functioning for the continuation of life. When any of these parts are no longer functioning excellently as they are expectedly should, the maintenance of life is threatened and the life of the person is put in great danger.

One of the most essential parts of the human body is the breast, though the breasts of the male species are more of accessories than those of the female. The world’s leading disease that can attack even a single breast is cancer and women are the most affected. In fact one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity among women is breast cancer. The Word Health reports that female breast cancer claims 2.6 percent for every 100,000 population in the world, which means, that there are 2,600 female out of 100,000 who are dying of breast cancer every year in the world. Though men are not spared of the possible occurrence of breast cancer, little is known about the incidence of breast cancer among them.

For this reason women are encouraged, more than men to take good care of their breasts, thus a breast health and lifestyle campaign by health organizations like the World Health Organization together with women’s health advocacy groups. Breast health and lifestyle is the only possible way of detecting at very early the possible presence of lumps that might become cancerous. Today more than ever women are now more careful in taking the actions to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Part of the breast health education is the self- breast exam among women. Women who have fully developed breasts are taught the proper way of examining their breasts through palpation. This means that women will examine their breast and the nearby tissues for the presence of any lump by touching. This self breast examination should be done regularly especially every after menstrual cycle. Girls and women are also taught the importance of a breast health and lifestyle and that includes wearing appropriate undergarment that will help protect the breast from any unnecessary injuries.

For the mothers, breast feeding lifestyle is also very important that it should be given topmost priority. There is no doubt that mother’s milk is the ultimate source of complete and nutritious food for babies. It is recommended that mother should exclusively breastfed their newborn babies up the sixth month. This means that the babies should not be given any other food but the mother’s milk.

Breastfeeding has many benefits both for the mother and the babies. It increases and strengthens the bond between the mother and the child. It makes the child’s immune system stronger thus allowing the child’s natural defenses to fight diseases. Most of all, it has been noted that most mothers who breastfeed their babies have lesser chance of getting breast cancer. Hence the breastfeeding advocacy of World Health Organization, “breast milk is still best for babies” is really proven to be true whereas the act of breastfeeding is equally best for mothers as well. With this breast feeding lifestyle both the mother and the child are the most benefited.

Other breast health tips are still the most basic and free. The appropriate balanced diet coupled with regular exercise is still the best defense against any disease including the deadly breast cancer. Likewise the risk factors that can lead to breast cancer should be avoided and one of them is smoking and too-much alcohol intake. When all these are avoided and the regular exercise and proper diet are followed, any woman can certainly enjoy a better quality and breast cancer-free life.

There is no doubt that breast health and lifestyle are truly geared in the maintenance of breast health and the maintenance of healthy life as well. After all, an ounce of prevention is still worth than a pound of cure.
